On February 26, 2025, members of Club Tirol visited the MECS Cluster of Excellence (Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage) at TU Wien to gain insight into cutting-edge research on renewable energy storage.

Professors Günther Rupprechter and Dominik Eder presented the cluster’s work, which is backed by €35 million in funding. The focus lies on developing custom-designed nanocatalysts for electro- and photocatalysis, enabling the use of chemical bonds in molecules as energy carriers.

By avoiding the use of rare precious metals, the research aims to create efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions. The visit highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between science and industry in driving forward the energy transition.
